What to Know BEFORE Buying Delta 10 Products

With the craze surrounding Delta 8 THC, it’s no surprise that Delta 10 is suddenly getting a lot of traction, but we’d like to urge our customers to use caution. Not all Delta 10 products are what they seem.

In this article we dive into why some companies are using misleading marketing tactics to misrepresent the volume of Delta 10 in their top products.

In fact, we reviewed top Delta 10 products currently on the market and found one product where Delta 10 comprised of less than 3% of the volume % by wt. Instead, it is nearly 80% Delta 8. Despite it being marketed as a Delta 10 product.

But before we dive in, let’s review what we know about Delta 10 THC to date.

What we’ve learned about Delta 10 THC so far:

1. Delta 10 is a minor cannabinoid. It does not exist naturally in significant amounts.
2. Delta 10 is only available right now through careful scientific extraction.
3. Users describe it as similar to a sativa.
4. Delta 10 is reported to be a light, stimulating high with more energy than Delta 8 and Delta 9.
5. Initial user reports claim that it may help with creativity.
6. Delta-10 will get you high, but probably less high than Delta-9 according to a widely-referenced pigeon study.
7. Described as a creative stimulant, promoting focus and energy without some of the anxiety and paranoia users experience with Delta 9.

But up until this point, the study group remains extremely limited. There is actually very little that people know about Delta 10 as of right now.

At Moonwlkr, we trust science. But until the appropriate scientific studies can be completed, we believe that the best report of user effects happens when users can experience it for themselves.

But in order to do that, consumers need access to safe, accurately-sourced, accurately-marketed, and lab-tested products. And that simply hasn’t been the case for many of the Delta 10 products on the market so far.

What to Know Before Buying Delta 10 THC

Currently, there are companies claiming that they sell Delta 10 THC products that are mostly Delta 8.

This is where we want to urge buyers to use caution. Before you buy Delta 10 products it is absolutely critical to do your own independent research and look at the third-party lab testing results. 

Third-party lab testing not only analyzes what type of THC is in the product. But also how much of that type of THC is in the product.

Not all Delta 10 products on the market right now are what you expect. In fact, many “Delta 10 THC” products are predominately Delta 8, with only trace amounts of Delta 10 in them.

What we’re finding is that companies are selling Delta 8 products that have a very small, almost non-existent amount of Delta 10. The worst part? These same companies are marketing their mostly-Delta 8 products as Delta 10.

But you wouldn’t know this unless you looked closely at lab results.

Examples of Misleading Delta 10 THC Products

Here are three examples of products on the market being marketed as “Delta 10” but that actually contain relatively small volumes of Delta 10 THC:

Product Example #1: This product claims to be Delta 10. But only contains 2.67% wt of Delta 10 compared to 79.9% wt of Delta 8 THC.

Product Example #2: In this example, Delta 10 THC registers as only 37.0 mg/g compared to 816.9 mg/g of Delta 8 THC.

Product Example 3: In this product, the levels of Delta 10 are a bit higher. But still not significant enough to be labeled a true Delta 10 product. Here, Delta 10 THC registers as 38.16 mg/ml versus 91.84 mg/ml of Delta 8 THC.

This is why it is critical to examine a product’s third-party lab testing before buying it. 

The issue with false Delta 10 advertising:

I think we can all agree the issues with false Delta 10 advertising are vast and many. But there are two primary concerns with this kind of marketing.

1. It’s misleading. Brands are trying to capitalize on the new “craze” but they aren’t even selling you a legitimate product. This is not only potentially harmful to the consumer, but also to the industry as a whole.

1. It’s hurting the future of Delta 10. Delta 8 has been reported to deliver a calming sensation, can help with anxiety, and may aid in better sleep. Delta 10, however, is reported to be more uplifting and enhances creativity and alertness. So when companies sell “Delta 10” (but really just use Delta 8 and add in small amounts of Delta 10) users don’t get to experience the full suite of potential benefits from Delta 10.

Why are companies marketing Delta 8 products as Delta 10?

Cannabinoid users are savvy. And they’re excited about the future of minor cannabinoid benefits, effects, and studies. But as consumers learn, search, and ask more about Delta 10, companies are attempting to capture a portion of the next big green rush.

Unfortunately, the access to Delta 10 is limited right now, which makes it much more difficult (and expensive) to purchase. In fact, Delta 10 was originally discovered on accident, when chemical fire retardant was added to hemp plants meant for CBD extraction. Learn more about the history here. This is of course, not a safe or sustainable way to extract Delta 10.

It’s only recently that Delta 10 was successfully extracted using food-safe additives. But the process is still being perfected at scale.

That’s likely why many companies are taking advantage of consumer interest by combining Delta 8 products with Delta 10 – and then marketing them as “Delta 10”.

Instead, you might want to consider buying Delta 8 in bulk.

A Word of Caution for Those Looking to Produce Delta 10 Products:

Companies looking to buy Delta 10 to produce their own products should also proceed with caution. So far, what we’ve seen in the industry is that bulk product testing is coming in at a very small amount (potency) of Delta 10.

Let’s break it down. For example, say a company buys 1 kilogram of CBD and that kilogram is testing at 98%. That means there are 980 grams of CBD in that kilogram. A very strong potency.

But, say a company buys 1 kilogram of “Delta 10”. From what we’ve seen so far, most of them are testing at less than 30% Delta 10.

That means there are less than 300 grams of Delta 10 in the kilo they purchased. The good news is that these third party tests are able to isolate and test for Delta 10.

The bad news is, Delta 10 is extremely expensive and difficult for companies to attain at high potency. So what companies are doing is paying an inflated price just to say they have “Delta 10”. But their product actually has an extremely low potency.
